The Masdar Institute of Science and Technology (MI) and ATIC have collaborated together and are launching the region's first Microsystems Masters program.
As the high technology industry expands in the UAE, the presence of world class sustainable educational programs to support these initiatives in the UAE are vital. Thus, a number of universities and tertiary institutions will launch BSc and MSc programs catered to the semiconductor industry as a part of the Abu Dhabi Ecosystem Development. These local institutions will prepare students for careers in any one of the high technology sectors, to include the semiconductor industry.
In addition to the Masdar Institute – AUS, KUSTAR and UAE University will launch BSc and MSc programs related to microelectronics/semiconductors.
The Masdar Institute (MI) and ATIC have collaborated together and are launching the region’s first Microsystems Masters program. Abu Dhabi is taking part in a global technology revolution and is encouraging young talent to lead the way. The MSc in Microsystems is one of the most prestigious programs in Abu Dhabi and is seeking bright University students, who have the potential to make a significant contribution to the future of the semiconductor industry as well as other advanced technologies. As a student enrolled in the MSc in Microsystems program, you will have access to world-class professors in the field of Microsystems and will have the opportunity to study at the Masdar Institute campus in Masdar City, which is the world’s first carbon-neutral, zero-waste city. The students will be among an elite group of individuals that have been identified as future leaders of Abu Dhabi’s technological revolution.
The Masdar Institute is the centerpiece of the Masdar Initiative, a landmark program announced in April 2006 by the government of Abu Dhabi to establish an entirely new economic sector dedicated to alternative and sustainable energy. Masdar is a highly-strategic initiative with primary objectives of: helping drive the economic diversification of Abu Dhabi; maintaining and expanding Abu Dhabi's position in evolving global energy markets; positioning Abu Dhabi as a developer of technology; and making a meaningful contribution towards sustainable human development. The Masdar Institute is a private, not-for-profit, independent, research-driven institute developed with the support and cooperation of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The Institute offers Masters and (eventually) PhD programs in science and engineering disciplines, with a focus on advanced energy and sustainable technologies. It welcomes and encourages applications from qualified local and international students and provides fellowships to talented students who meet its high admission standards. Its faculty is of the highest quality and the intent is to have the structure of its top administration similar to MIT's. This new Institute will establish linkages with the government and industry, both within the region and internationally, in order to move new knowledge to use in the form of innovative technologies and in the education of a wider audience
The Microsystems program has been developed in collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and through a partnership with the Advanced Technology Investment Company (ATIC). The new program provides joint research opportunities for faculty at Masdar Institute of Science and Technology and MIT. It also aims to support the development of a “Clean room” and associated Masdar Institute facilities to be located in Masdar City, the world’s first ‘green print’ for sustainable city that is fully powered by renewable energy. The Microsystems program will also contribute to building highly skilled human capital for Abu Dhabi in the semiconductor manufacturing industry. UAE Nationals will have the option to enroll in a Pre-Masters program with the MI to assist these students in preparing for the TOEFL and the GRE-exams. Admissions into the Pre-Masters program is at the discretion of Masdar Institute (MI). For more detailed information about the program, please visit www.masdar.ac.ae
