The SEMI High Tech U initiative is a student event for UAE Nationals that has been developed as an interactive and fun experience that exposes them all to the many possibilities in the semiconductor and high-tech industries.
The SEMI High Tech U (HTU) is a fun, interactive experience for students, parents and teachers, exposing them all to the many possibilities in the semiconductor and high-tech industries. The SEMI High Tech U Program gives students in particular a unique opportunity to have a hands-on learning experience of microelectronics and emerging technologies, and it also gives parents a chance to be part of their children’s development and entrée into this exciting field, and finally it gives educators the ability to make the connection between classroom instruction and the path to high-tech careers, for the betterment of their students. The experience provides educators with practical applications of math, science and technology to use in the classroom and in curriculum development. All modules are taught by industry instructors, themselves educators who see “live” examples of how academic skills translate to the workplace. Job growth and expansion in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) fields are important for the economic growth of Abu Dhabi. Teachers, and ultimately our students, benefit from the real-world engagement and career exploration. The SEMI High Tech U Program integrates follow-up activities intended to bring together teachers, higher education professionals, and global industry leaders to establish networking opportunities beyond the initial High Tech U experience.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The course agenda is filled with hands-on activities that draw a connection between math, science and real-world applications. The High Tech U curriculum includes highly interactive, fun experiments that introduce participants to semiconductor manufacturing concepts, microchip logic and solar and renewable energy. • For Students Increased knowledge and interest in the semiconductor/high tech industries & educational pathways leading to high tech careers, established networking opportunities and connections with industry leaders & tertiary institutions, increased confidence in trying new courses and activities related to the industry • For Teachers Increased knowledge and interest in the semiconductor /high tech industries, understanding the courses their students need to take in high school to help lead them to a science or engineering career, raised confidence in having the ability to relate existing school curricula to the high tech industry • For Parents Increased knowledge and awareness about the semiconductor/high tech industries & the educational pathways leading to high tech careers, increased confidence in the industry, increased parental involvement in student’s career planning
