This is the first time that Globalfoundries' Singapore campus has been included in the programme, which culminated in a 'graduation ceremony' for all interns on July 28th.
The Al Nokhba is a series of educational initiatives aimed at boosting the semiconductor industry in Abu Dhabi.
Asked to describe their experience here, undergraduate Amal Al Kuwaiti, 21, said it was difficult at the start because she did not have any prior knowledge about semiconductors when studying back home in UAE.
But the experience has been an eye-opener for them.
"There were so many lessons and values that I learnt, but my key takeaway stands to be how engineers should always take full responsibility whenever working in a wafer fabrication plant. Just a single small mistake committed could spell disaster," said Amal.
For some students, like Mariam Al Junaibi, the experience was a "cultural immersion programme", where she has made new friends.
The opportunity also gave students a glimpse of the semiconductor industry in Singapore.
Said Hamdan Mohamed Al HammadiI, 21: "I was completely amazed by the technology that the industry in Singapore has achieved in terms of designing electronic circuits and transistors. It has indeed provided a real-world context to my academic knowledge."
