ATIC-launched program garners participation from 155 students and major industry leaders

Abu Dhabi, 18 July, 2011: The Advanced Technology Investment Company (ATIC) has recently launched the Summer of Semiconductors program, designed to educate 155 participating students from grades 9-12 in the science of the semiconductor industry. Running through the end of July, the program will focus on a lineup of industry-leading speakers, including representatives from Sony and Intel. The program will further enable students to engage in hands-on learning through workshops led by program partners Masdar, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) and Takatof.

“This program enables students to navigate the complex industry of advanced technology and understand the great potential the industry holds for their future careers,” said Sami Issa, Executive Director of Ecosystem Development at ATIC. “From speaking with participants and their parents, we feel this program has already proven very valuable. We are confident this effort and others like it will bear significant fruit as we work towards establishing an ecosystem for advanced technology within the emirate.”

The curriculum will conclude on July 28th with an exhibition at the Glenelg school of Abu Dhabi showcasing the projects students created during the program itself. Organizers believe the exhibition will generate interest in the field and motivate high school students to join next year’s program.

The Summer of Semiconductors is organized in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Education Council, Creative Kids Academy, American University of Sharjah, Masdar, AMD and Takatof. The program and partnerships are part of ATIC’s strategic investment into the development of a strong human capital base, which will serve as a foundation for Abu Dhabi’s strategic development in the advanced technology sector.
