ATIC to Engage UAE Youth through 'Summer of Semiconductors' Activities
Published Mai 26, 2011
Abu Dhabi, 26 May 2011: ATIC is seeking the best and
brightest Emirati students for an exciting summer program, the Summer of
Semiconductors, which will be taking place from July 10th through the 28th
at The Glenelg School of Abu Dhabi. The three week program is designed
to educate students about semiconductors and Abu Dhabi's growing role in
the field of advanced technology.
The program aims to help develop the future generation of scientists
and technologists who one day will play a core role in leading Abu
Dhabi's technological advancement. This initiative has been brought
together through the partnership of ATIC, Abu Dhabi Education Council
(ADEC), AMD Foundation, American University of Sharjah, Creative Kids
Academy and Glenelg School.
"The Summer of Semiconductors exemplifies our efforts to develop the
next generation of human capital for this nation's growing advanced
technology industries," says Sami Issa, Executive Director leading the
Abu Dhabi Ecosystem Development for ATIC. "The exciting series of
programs we have lined up for participants will both enable students to
express their interest in the field while actively engaging them to
learn and continue to grow. For younger participants, this will be a
strong introduction to advanced technology while, for our older
participants, this could be one stepping stone towards a future career
in this dynamic field."
The Summer of Semiconductors immerses participants in the
technologies of today and tomorrow through insightful lectures, hands-on
workshops, collaborative group activities and fun field trips. The
program will be divided into two age groups, one for students entering 9th and 10th grade and another for students entering 11th and 12th
grade. This important program forms part of ATIC's commitment to
providing opportunities to nurture highly-skilled talents that will
support the development of the GLOBALFOUNDRIES fabrication facility and
the wider advanced technology ecosystem in Abu Dhabi.
Students in the younger age group will be able to choose from a
Future Scientist Program and Robotics Program. Those who seek to be
future scientists will study the various uses of semiconductors as well
as the fascinating methods involved in their production. Those who
choose the robotics program will gain hands on experience in building a
robot as they prepare for the World Robotics Olympiad - jointly run by
the AMD Foundation and Creative Kids Academy, who work on the
development of early age students with the aim of creating a new leading
generation.
Students in the older age group will be able to choose between
Microelectronic Technology and Future Technologist programs. The
Microelectronic program, run with American University Sharjah (AUS),
will provide in-depth exploration of microelectronics such as
semiconductors and their practical applications on a practical level
that gears participants for future careers in the field. The Future
Technologist Program will, like the Future Scientists Program, foster
knowledge and skill development across fields including
microelectronics, robotics and gaming and will be run by the Creative
Kids Academy and the AMD Foundation. The AMD Foundation is part of AMD's
commitment to philanthropy, established with the aim of connecting and
empowering individuals with knowledge and in so doing provide exciting
and interesting opportunities.
There are 50 spaces for students entering 9th or 10th grade, and 120 spaces for those entering 11th or 12th. All applications are due by 2nd June. For more information, please visit www.alnokhba.ae.
